Paxil Injury Resource Center

Paxil Injury Resource Center, sponsored by Fellows & Blake, L.L.C., offers comprehensive services for the victims of birth defects related to the antidepressant drug Paxil (paroxetine). Fellows & Blake will help families nationwide by connecting them with medical specialists, community support services, financial assistance and legal services.

If you took Paxil while you were pregnant and your child has a birth defect, it’s not your fault. You could not have known what the manufacturer of Paxil, pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, and/or your doctor should have known. Fellows & Blake will confidentially assist you in discovering whether the drug manufacturer or the doctor should be held responsible for your child’s suffering and future health needs.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), exposure to Paxil early in pregnancy may increase the risk for birth defects, particularly heart malformations. Paxil has also been linked to lung defects, such as PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn) and brain defects.

Paxil is a brand name for the drug paroxetine, an antidepressant taken by millions of people in the United States and throughout the world. Paxil (paroxetine) belongs to a class of antidepressant drugs known as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) that have been linked to various birth defects. Paroxetine is available as: Paxil, CR, Pexeva and Paroxetine hydrochloride (generic Paxil).

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that exposure to paroxetine (Paxil) during pregnancy may increase the risk for birth defects, particularly cardiac malformations. Studies show:

    * Women who received paroxetine in early pregnancy had an approximately two-fold increased risk for having an infant with a heart defect.

    *  Babies born to mothers taking SSRIs were six times as likely to have PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn).

    *  Women taking certain SSRIs, including Paxil, during pregnancy may be at a significantly higher risk of having a baby with a brain defect.
